LLUH named as a top hospital for physical rehabilitation

Loma Linda University Health has been named to Newsweek’s 2024 list of America’s Best Physical Rehabilitation Centers. Loma Linda University Medical Center’s East Campus houses many rehabilitation services patients require as they face various conditions and injuries. LLUH’s rehabilitation services offer inpatient and outpatient programs combining patient-centered care, advanced treatments, and innovative research.

This is the fourth consecutive year LLUH has been honored by Newsweek and Statista Inc., the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider. Newsweek and Statista evaluate more than 1,100 rehabilitation facilities operating in the United States, and this year included on their annual list. LLUH’s rehabilitation services ranked number five within the state of California. LLU is also California’s highest ranked academic Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation inpatient rehabilitation facility.

“Our doctors, therapists, and support staff work together to ensure each of our patients experiences the best possible outcome,” said Justin Hata, MD, chair of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation department. “Our team is committed to finding the right treatment for each patient. We care for the whole person, not just the condition or symptoms.”

Offering the most comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services in the region, LLUH patients can receive physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, robotic rehabilitation, orthopedic and sports therapy, pediatric rehabilitation, and orthotics and prosthetics. As the only rehabilitation program with robotic therapy in the region, LLU Health offers the latest innovative technologies to help patients recover.

“Each patient receives outstanding physical medicine and rehabilitation services from our highly qualified team of doctors, therapists, nurses, and support staff,” said Darryl VandenBosch, CPA, senior vice president for East Campus and Surgical Hospital, “We focus on partnering with our patients to maximize their recoveries from severe illness or injury and significantly improve the quality of their lives.”

Loma Linda University Health’s rehabilitation services include a commitment to training future physicians and therapists in a variety of specialties, VandenBosch added.

Four evaluation factors determine which hospitals qualify for inclusion on Newsweek’s honor roll:

  • Quality metrics data published by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
  • A national online survey of experts with knowledge of physical rehabilitation centers (physicians, physiotherapists, doctors, clinic managers and other health care professionals).
  • Accreditation data on physical rehabilitation centers provided by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and the Model Systems Knowledge Translation Center (MSKTC).
  • Google reviews which serve as a proxy for patient satisfaction.

The complete list of the nation’s top 300 rehabilitation services can be found on the Newsweek website.
