Loma Linda University’s Behavioral Health hosted its seventeenth annual Seeds of Hope fundraiser on October 24, which brought together patients, families, staff, and supporters for an evening of inspiration and celebration. The event raised crucial funds to support behavioral health services and combat the stigma surrounding mental health.
Attendees enjoyed dinner while hearing about the progress made in services over the past year, including the opening of the Matthews-Bolden Therapeutic Courtyard at the Behavioral Medicine Center in Redlands and the success of the 6th annual Stand Up to Stigma 5K, which sold over 800 tickets.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Behavioral Health Champion Award, given to Susan Markovich for her dedication to behavioral health services. Richard Hart, MD, DrPH, president of Loma Linda University Health, recognized Markovich’s contributions, which have transformed countless lives by providing patients with the tools they need for healing and recovery.
The event also featured the inspiring story of Dual Diagnosis patient, Justin Telesio, who shared his addiction and depression recovery journey. Telesio’s courage and resilience moved the audience as he discussed the pivotal moments in his treatment and offered advice to others facing similar challenges.
Additionally, Edward Field, MBA, vice president of Behavioral Health Services, provided an update on future developments, including the introduction of the EmPATH unit, a dedicated psychiatric space for youth and adults, and the expansion of services at the Hinshaw Towers.
“These developments reflect our unwavering dedication to not only meet the growing demand for behavioral health services, but also deliver the highest quality care to our community, regardless of age,” Field stated. “Your support tonight and commitment to Loma Linda University Behavioral Health empowers us to carry on these essential efforts. Together, we are building a brighter future for behavioral health.”
