Loma Linda University Medical Center – Murrieta is launching a three-year cardiovascular fellowship that will provide an academically and clinically rigorous training program in general cardiology and advanced training in clinical cardiology subspecialties and cardiovascular research.
The program will begin August 1 with two fellows. The fellowship lasts for three years and is approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
The curriculum aims to provide broad clinical exposure in acute and chronic cardiovascular care occurring in the inpatient and outpatient settings and provide extensive experience in a variety of cardiac procedures.
“We’re training cardiologists here in Southwest Riverside County who receive training but also perform research that will help contribute to improved understanding of disease processes, and ultimately, toward advancements in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cardiovascular disease,” said Manila Zaman, MD, program director and chief of cardiology at Loma Linda University Medical Center – Murrieta.
Anthony Hilliard, MD, CEO of Loma Linda University Health Hospitals, said the move is a significant commitment to training the next generation of specialists and advancing the future of medicine in the Southwest Riverside Region.
“The physicians completing this important new fellowship will have the specialized knowledge and experience needed to provide cardiovascular care that meets the unique needs of our patients in Murrieta and the surrounding area,” Hilliard said. “The fellowship will enhance our cardiovascular care delivery system here at LLUMC-Murrieta as we continue to provide world class care to this region which we care so deeply about.”
