Pregnant woman in hospital room with doctor and nurse

Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital has been named to U.S. News & World Report’s 2022-23 “Best Hospitals for Maternity” list, highlighting their national ranking with low rates of newborn complications, early deliveries, and C-section rates.

Courtney Martin, DO, medical director of quality improvement for LLU Children's Hospital, said this recognition is extraordinarily rewarding and important to the team of nurses, staff, and physicians who provide obstetric care.

“We are honored to care for both complicated and uncomplicated pregnancies with the highest quality standards and aim to deliver the best outcomes as recognized by this prestigious award,” Martin said. “More importantly, providing high quality, safe, patient-centered, compassionate care for patients who are from communities with disparate social determinants of health and outcomes fulfills the important core mission of Loma Linda University Health.”

Out of 649 US hospitals that submitted data to be evaluated for their maternity services, LLU Children’s Hospital was one of only 297 that earned recognition for their high performance. To achieve a High Performing rating, a hospital had to score significantly higher than average on a combination of eight quality measures, as well as having acceptable rates of C-sections, newborn complications, and episiotomies.

Participating hospital profiles also included various relevant information on services and amenities, such as private rooms, valet parking, and availability of child-birthing classes.
