New kitchens near completion

Two new kitchens have been designed to meet both patient dietary needs and operate the new facility’s large cafeteria. One kitchen will serve the Children’s Hospital, while the other will serve the new adult hospital and the cafeteria.

Both kitchens are located on the new A level, just below level one. The well-equipped food prep areas will have a total of 212 pieces of equipment between them. The combined kitchens will feature six coolers with double entry points, an 80-quart mixer, 12 exhaust hoods, and an ice cream maker. Each kitchen will also have its own trash compactor available.

Two dedicated elevators are in place to convey prepared food to hospital cafeteria on level one. Patients will receive their meals via in-room service.

The new kitchens are part of the exciting future of healthcare at Loma Linda University Health. With less than a year until patients are moved into the new facilities, workers continue to complete the interiors of both towers. When completed, the way medical care if provided at Loma Linda University Health will be changed forever.

We're sharing photographic updates of the hospital construction work on a periodic basis. Watch for special emphasis on some of the behind-the-scenes-views and untold stories at the Vision 2020 website.
