The Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital Partners in Play event on March 10 brought together five local businesses committed to brightening the day of pediatric patients facing serious medical challenges.

ArrowHeart, the foundation for Arrowhead Credit Union, Burgeson’s Heating and Cooling, Contour Dermatology, La Loma Federal Credit Union, and Stater Bros Charities participated in the initiative, offering engaging activities and small tokens of encouragement for children, including those confined to their hospital beds.

The event is designed to distract the patients from the clinical atmosphere and provide playful activities.  Children could choose their own teddy bears, accompanied by a birth certificate, and color, and take part in a hands-on measuring activity, receiving a tape measure as a keepsake.

“We are deeply grateful for the businesses that make Partners in Play possible, giving our patients precious moments of normalcy and fun,” said Shelley Brassfield, Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital Foundation Corporate Program Coordinator.

For Kathi Cochran, co-owner and marketing coordinator of Burgeson’s Heating and Cooling, the experience was a powerful reminder of resilience.

“It was quite a moving experience to be a small part of these kids’ day,” Cochran said. “To know that many of them are fighting each day that so many people take for granted is incredibly inspiring.”

Jennifer Attah, Manager of ArrowHeart & Community Impact, echoed the sentiment. “At ArrowHeart Credit Union, we believe that even the smallest gestures can bring comfort and hope to children facing tough times,” she said. “Seeing their smiles reminds us of why we do this — to bring warmth, joy, and a sense of security when they need it the most.”

Even for those unable to attend the event in person, the participating companies ensured that every child felt included, delivering take-home gifts to bedbound patients.

As the hospital continues its mission to provide compassionate care, initiatives like Partners in Play underscore the importance of community partnerships in making a difference.
