Loma Linda University School of Medicine has selected Joshua S. Chung, MD, FACS, as chair of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, effective July 1.
Chung, who joined the School of Medicine faculty in 2019, is an associate professor of cardiothoracic surgery and currently serves as vice chair of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery. He will lead a team of cardiothoracic surgeons and work with multidisciplinary teams to continue to grow and advance cardiothoracic services across the Loma Linda University Health system.
"Dr. Chung is a highly skilled surgeon, and we are confident that his talents and leadership will serve our faculty, residents, students, and patients with excellence,” said Tamara Thomas, MD, dean of Loma Linda University School of Medicine.
Chung earned his Doctor of Medicine at Loma Linda University School of Medicine in 2007. He completed his residency in general surgery at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, and a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He also completed a fellowship in heart and lung transplant/mechanical assist at the Cleveland Clinic. In 2019, Chung returned to Loma Linda University Health, where he has also served as the director of Adult Cardiac Transplantation, ECMO, and Mechanical Circulatory Support.
Chung is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
He succeeds Anees Razzouk, MD, who served as chair of the department since 2007.
The position was approved this week by the Loma Linda University Health Board of Trustees.
